Twitter and the Internet could help build a brand, Levitan said, but if you spend too much time focusing on the web site or other content, "you'll take your eye off the ball". This may result in the show itself faltering, and that's the worst thing that you can do which should be avoided at all costs.
Braun said that this was because TV producers were still judged based on the ratings of the TV shows when aired. But he said that they would be judged on all aspects surrounding production in the long run.
Expressing his conflicted feelings about Hulu, Levitan said that it took him a long time to discover that top episodes of this show received about 2 million viewers. However, he noted that producers were not receiving any credit for this. Levitan is of the opinion that it would really boost the ratings if these 2 million people watched the show when it aired. He nevertheless expressed his fears that Hulu would make it less likely for networks to be able to pay for the costs incurred in the production of expensive shows.
But the networks have no choice but to support Hulu, Braun said. This is because in the event that they do not, an unfortunate scenario may arise in which people would simply pirate the content.
