Some people hear the term skills shortage and they have no idea what in the world it is. In it's most generalized and straightforward definition it means "a labor shortage is an economic condition in which there are insufficient qualified candidates (employees) to fill the marketplace demands for employment at any price. Such a condition is occasionally called by Economists as "an insufficiency in the labor force."

The reasons a skills shortage could happen differs, but the very popular reasons appear to be due to the changes in technology. If you have someone who only knows how to fix or service one type of technology and a new one comes along, that individual probably won't be able to work with that technology anymore unless they take classes or go back to school.

Unfortunately instead of helping communities and workers, this is hurting them. Skills shortage is causing a major up rise in categories and industries such as Accountants, Engineers, Nurses, Health Professionals, Secondary Teachers (particularly Maths, Science, Chemistry & Physics), Electricians and IT Specialists.
