The Districts
When visiting Seville it is a good idea to break your trip down so you can visit the various districts separately. This allows you to see all the main sites and helps you to really get to experience Seville as a whole. There are numerous districts in Seville and you will want to take time in each district. There are plenty of sites within each area that will give you a lot to do on your trip.
Santa Cruz and La Juderia
These districts are steeped in history. Here you will get to take in a quaint area with patios, pretty flowers and narrow street paths. Many of the sites you will see here are somehow related to local legends. Make sure that you take the time to listen to any stories being told by tour guides or locals as you stop and visit each site. For example, in Calle Cabeza del Rev Don Pedro there is a wall with a piece of marble. This marble represents the head of King Pedro I who was known as The Cruel. The legend surrounding this site is that the king had vowed to put the head of the person responsible for a murder there and in the end it was found he was the murderer so they took the head from his statue and placed it there.
Historical Quarter and El Arenal
In this area you will see various monuments as you enter. You can also visit the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza or the bull ring. Also here are the old city gates and the city's symbol, Torre del Oro. Here also is the more modern areas with hotels, restaurants and Sierpes, the cities most famous street.
This is a great area to stay in while touring the city. Be sure to book your hotel early though, as these popular hotels fill up fast. You should try booking online so you can be sure to get a good room at a great price.
Barrio de Triana
Upon entering this area you can see a nice scenic view of the shores on the other side of Seville. You will also be greeted by the Juan Belmonte statute. Continue on to see the Sailor's chapel, Calle Castilla and Calle Betis. This is also a great area to see some flamenco dancing.
Barrio de la Macerena
This district offers the Basilica de la Macarena and la Esperanza Macarena. You can also visit the only remaining Almoravid gate, Arco. The Andalusian Parliament is also here in the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas. Don't forget to see the San Luis de los Franceses, a baroque church known for its interesting sculptures and design style. Also check out the amusement park, Isla Magica.
Parque de Maria
One last district to visit is Parque de Maria where you can enjoy the impressive park, parquet de Maria Luisa. Visit the three pavilions, the Real, the Bellas artes and the Mudejar. Here you will get to visit museums like the Arqueologico and the artes y Costumbres Populares.
