Important Considerations When Buying Women's Slip-on Shoes

Women's Slip-Ons is a very large and diverse category of shoes group together

by one common feature, namely no laces, straps or other way to tie them one. The category is even larger than Men's Slip-Ons because of the addition of Heels, many of which can be categorized as slip-ons. On our own shoe site, there are over 2500 different styles from over 100 different brands in this category alone. The advantage as well as disadvantage of Slip-ons is that they can easily slip on and slip off. For casual activities slip ons make a good choice because of their convenience, but don't usually work for athletics where you exert a lot of force against the ground. This is because large bursts of force can push your foot right out of a shoe that is not cinched tight against the foot.

Likewise, Slip-On shoes with a high heel are not generally a good idea. While you are not exerting a large amount of force when walking in high heels, the lack of a cinch to tie the shoe to the foot reduces the stability of your foot putting you at greater risk of falling off your heels as well as greater risk of sliding down in your heels leading to more blisters, and other sores. Even if your heels are not exceptionally high, slip-ons are also not recommended in fashion, casual, or dress shoes that you expect to spend a lot of time in. If slip-ons are part of your regular business attire, it can lead to more chronic stress on the foot through blister, compressed toes, callouses on the heel, etc.

So when are slip-ons a good addition to your wardrobe? Slip-ons are great when you are not expecting to run or move briskly in your shoes and in the case of business or dress styles, if you don't expect to be in them all day long. Great examples of when slip-ons can be good include women's work shoes where you may need steel toes for protection but are typically standing in one place or in one area all day long. Other good examples are casual walking shoes where you don't necessarily need the shoes tight against your foot.

No matter what type of slip-on shoe you are wearing, one thing to watch out for is stretching in your shoes. Again, because there is no strap or laces to control the tightness of your footwear, your slip-on shoes will likely get looser with wear. As they get looser the value of your footwear diminishes. You will experience greater slippage, the cushioning will wear faster, and ultimately you will find your feet more stressed, calloused, and more uncomfortable.

So if you plan to buy a new pair of women's slip-ons, keep in mind what you expect to be doing in these shoes. Slip-on shoes are best in casual and leisure activities and best if you don't expect to be in them all day long. Slip-on shoes also lose performance as they stretch and don't hug your foot as tightly as when you first acquired them, so plan on buying slip-on shoes more regularly than other types of footwear.
