Each specification has very specific standard designations that will assist you in making sure the unit is within the operating range of what you need without causing damage to your electrical device. Depending on the size and popularity of the power supply you can spend anywhere from a few dollars to several thousand. Electrical power supplies do fail and do need replacing.
