If My Delivery Is Lost Or Damaged Is It Insured?

If My Delivery Is Lost Or Damaged Is It Insured?

When you're trying to maintain a successful business

, you need to consider insurance in almost every area of your business. Failing to maintain adequate insurance is a reason that many businesses fail when they encounter losses that they couldn't have anticipated. There are areas though where many business owners are unclear as to whose responsibility the insurance is, and in nowhere is this more obvious than when someone is shipping their goods with a courier service.

When a courier company is shipping your goods, there are a number of different ways that they could potentially become damaged. While most of these are quite rare, it is true that there are a number of different things that could go wrong. Packages become lost, are delivered to the wrong addresses, become stolen, are damaged by rain, or are wrecked in a car accident. So, the question is, are those packages insured?

Every courier company that is in business should be maintaining something known as courier insurance. This is an insurance policy which makes sure that the goods that they carry for their clients are insured against a wide variety of types of damages. They include all of the most common things which may occur to a courier shipment.

This means that if your package was to become crushed in a vehicle accident or soaked through with rain, there will be insurance on it which is maintained by the courier company. However, just because this is the practice doesn't always mean that you should take it for granted. If you're doing business with a small courier company that you've never worked with before, always ask about the details of the insurance coverage that they maintain on their shipments.

When you're shipping with a courier company, there may be a few rare occasions when you need to purchase additional insurance of your own on your packages. This might happen when you're shipping something that is very valuable. This is because they are only going to carry insurance that covers up to a maximum of what they estimate the average value of their package to be, not enough to cover in full the damage of a highly valuable or rare item. You may also need additional insurance if you're not just shipping your items. If you're storing the items with the courier, you may need storage insurance as well, although you should be able to purchase this from them.
