. The sun is shining and you are feeling great. Your kids are anxious to get out of the house and do something out of the ordinary. You are tired of the requests, so you decide you will do what you can and appease their desires. However, you do not want to pay the store prize for name brand fire trucks. You would rather find some used fire trucks, perhaps at a yard sale. Then the light goes on! What a perfect activity to do on this beautiful Saturday morning! You can bring your kids with you, enjoy the weather, and sift through the piles of stuff that people put out in their yards. You can motivate your kids by sending them on a hunt to find those used fire trucks that they want so badly. You put on some walking shoes, grab your purse and your kids, and head out the door.Now, if you have never been much of a yard sale shopper, there are a few tips that might help you in your endeavors. First, you have to actually find the sales to go to. Maybe you have seen signs along the side of the road, or you can check the newspapers for advertisements. If you know of some sales going on, plan out the most efficient route to hit the ones you know about.
Do not forget to bring essentials that will make your trip more comfortable. A hat to block the sun would be crucial on a sunny day. Sunglasses, too, may be necessary. And do not forget about the kids, either. Bring their hats along in your bag. Pack some snacks, especially for the kids, and water bottles. You do not want to get dehydrated during your shopping extravaganza. You may also want to bring a fabric grocery bag to put your purchases in.
A crucial step to yard sale shopping is to have cash on hand. Small bills are most useful, since you are looking for the lowest prices. You might consider giving each of your children five one dollar bills and telling them that they can spend their money on whatever they would like. Doing this will also make it more of a game for your children. If they know they cannot just beg you for anything they see, they may be more selective about their purchases.
Your yard sale shopping day can be a great success. You may even find those used fire trucks you were looking for. Just keep these few tips in mind before you head out the door.
