Hua Hin: The First Beach Resort In Thailand
Hua Hin is 200 kilometers east of Bangkok, situated in the western section of the Gulf of Thailand
. In the 1920s the train station was built in Hua Hin and communicating to and from the city has become easier. The train station was erected in one of the two major roads of the city and that road leads directly to the beach.The Royal Railway Hotel was designed and patterned after the architectural style of Siam. Because the train station and the adjacent hotel were new and inviting, the reigning royalty, King Rama VII visited and was captivated by the beautiful place. King Ram VII immediately ordered a summer palace built in Hua Hin thus Klai Kang Won (far from worries) was constructed. Where the King goes and builds the rest of the royal and elite Thais follow suit. In no time at all, the sleepy and quiet fishing village turned into Thailands first ever beach resort patronized by the royal and rich Thais. It is also at Hua Hin where the first (and probably still the best) golf course in Thailand was developed.
The advent of World War II brought an end to Hua Hins glory days. For more than 80 years, the beach town had its ups and downs in terms of patrons and development. The royalties gave up on Hua Hin as the place no longer held the charm and quaintness of a sleepy fishing village. In the 1970s, Hua Hin was lost in the shadow of the more boisterous Pattaya beaches the once-upon-a-time R&R destination of G.I. Joes.
However, in the 1980s, Thailand slowly became known as a backpackers ultimate destination. Tourism boomed and Hua Hin was caught up in the frenzied race to develop its beaches. Hua Hin was rebuilt and still continues to develop. A lot of international hotels and condominiums staked their claim in Hua Hin. Today Hua Hin boosts of fine beach resorts complete with amenities that any tourist could ask for.
There are lots of beaches along Hua Hins beaches that offer exhilarating water sports such as wind surfing, snorkeling, parasailing and diving. No fret it you cant do any of these for as long as you want to learn, there are locals and expats in the beach who are more than willing to guide you.
The Royal Palace and the other villas of the Thailands elite are still there to see. The Hua Hin train station is just beautiful. One should ride on the train just for experience. You can actually get to and from Hua Hin to Bangkok with a travel time of 3 to 4 hours.
If you are into golf, then Hua Hin is the place to be as there are seven golf courses, all world class, well maintained and lower green fees compared to other links in other countries.
Night life is tame and family oriented. The street market has on-the-spot cooking to offer tourists and shopping stalls for souvenirs.
