How to secure your parcel this Christmas

If you have family or friends that live far away, or you live far away from all of them, you may not get to see them this Christmas. As such, any presents you are buying them will need to sent to them.

As courier is often the best method for doing this, here are some simple steps for making sure your parcel is securely packaged up and the gifts arrive safely.

1. What type of item are you sending? Although it's unlikely to be liquid or powder based, those parcels that do contain this sort of item will need special attention. Where possible, they should be wrapped separately from other items. Alternatively, tops and fasteners need to be firmly secured and well supported.

2. If what you're sending is breakable, you need to make sure that it's placed in the middle of a box, away from the vulnerable edges, and that you have plenty of cushioning all the way round the item. Bubble wrap is an old favourite, although foam and balled up paper may also be effective.

3. Whatever your item, you'll want to make sure that it's put into a strong and sturdy box. If in doubt, go with corrugated cardboard. It's renown for being strong and should go a long way to protecting the Christmas presents.

4. Whether you have lots of presents or want to use plenty of cushioning support, it's vital that you don't over fill the box. If you do, it could split under the strain and your gifts could fall out or get damaged. Where you feel the box needs it, make sure you add some tape to reinforce it.

5. If the gifts you're sending are vulnerable, you will no doubt notify the courier upon ordering their service. However, it's also a good idea to write 'handle with care' and 'this way up' on the box in order to help the driver and those in charge of loading the lorry or van.

Using a worldwide courier means you can send Christmas presents all over the world, so whether you want to ship a parcel to China, Germany, France or anywhere else in the world, they will be able to help you.
