We leave our homes to be on holidays for some time as we need to be away, to feel relaxed and enjoy ourselves. The less mind burdens we have the better. Think about what you need to focus on the main reason for your journey. You want to see another part of the world. You would like to see, experience and feel like a bird. There are lots of work burden, responsibilities and hassles of modern life that we need to relieve from. So, we travel.
What You Need To Take with You
I have used the word need as you are not supposed to take unnecessary luggage with you. To carry your stuff with you, a bag, suitcase, etc is required.
Bag - It will be much better if you take a light one that you can carry on your shoulder or a backpack so that both your hands are free. Be careful about the material you choose as there is a huge variety of heavy and light bags out there.
Suitcase - You never know what will be waiting for you on a first visit to a new destination. Some suitcases could be almost 10 kg while they are empty. They are solid and durable, but think about it and see if you need such a robust thing. If not, go for a light one. Make sure it is wheeled and you do not have to drag it for long distances.
Check out Your Destination's Temperature
You may go from a cold to a hot region or vise versa. Just be realistic and do not freak out! You need something to feel comfortable and healthy. Think moderately while choosing how many of one clothing item you need to take with you. If you bring one overcoat for the cold climate and a light wind-proof jacket, it shows you know how to travel lightly. Remember that you need to be on the safe side, but not necessarily stuffing your suitcase with different colors of the same item!
Do Not Take Heavy Items
You may travel to some part of the world that is colder than yours. As you are living in a warm part of the world at present, it will not mean that you must wear the heaviest items you have in your closet. Even in cold climate, there are thin winter blouse, sweater, etc that are equally warm.
If you take some extra shoes, make sure they are not too heavy. Otherwise, this will add a lot to your luggage. If you want to know how to travel lightly, you'd better consider the lighter version of shoes, etc.
How Many Underwear and Socks to Take?
Make some space by taking enough items so that you will not have to do laundry sooner than middle of your trip. Then, you will wash them or have them washed only once. Therefore, your mind will not be pre-occupied with such minor issues.
The last but not least is the fact that there is not a one-method-fits-all solution for those who want to travel lightly. Some items may be more vital to you than others. You may not care about other stuff that other people need badly. So, you can refer to your good thought to see what suits you best.
