How to Target Kids

Marketing to kids is not just a challenge but is also something I look forward to doing

. You see, when you work with kids, you have to think and act like a kid. This goes without saying that I love being child-like at times because you learn a little something more about yourself. Anyway, as I was suggesting, if your products or services target this particular group then you have to be ready to squeeze out all the creative juices in you.

When targeting kids you have to know what would get them interested. No, make that VERY interested. You have to learn what is currently the craze in the market that makes them go ga-ga. Is it Dora the Explorer? Sponge Bob Square Pants? Barney? Avatar? Chowder, perhaps? Knowing these characters and thinking about why they are so popular would help you think about a good marketing strategy for kids.

Let us consider some ideas to help you target the kid sector. Ready? Let's go:

1. Cartoon Characters

Just like I mentioned earlier, kids respond positively to popular cartoon characters. If you do not know who is in or out, just go ask kids in the primary school and you would know right away no rocket science there. Anyway, if you want to use cartoon characters for your color folder printing for instance what you can do is to create one for your company or business. Creating a cartoon character to be used in your marketing efforts is an effective strategy to catch kids' attention. When you have created a character, you can move on to using it for various marketing media platform such as television ads or magazine print ads.

To be able to get the right character, be sure to test it first with kids. It will be easy and fun. Develop several characters and gauge how each kid would respond to the character. Let them color them, make jigsaw puzzles out of them, and determine which among the choices is most popular. I'm sure you are as excited as I am to know the results after the kids are finished with their discussion.'

2. Role Models

Kids worship other kids, teen or even adult who they think are cool.' Think about Hannah Montana, casts of Glee, Jonas Brothers these are popular idols particularly for kids who are just about to enter teen life. They have idols and role models they want to associate with. What you can do is to identify who is currently hot.' If your marketing budget allows you to engage these stars, go ahead and get their images or pictures on all your print ads including your brochures or color folder printing. However, if your marketing budget does not allow for you to enlist the services of a popular celebrity, why not create your own? This is a cheaper and more practical approach rather than spending thousands of dollars on a celebrity endorser. Get to know what is popular and trendy. For instance, know what is in' in terms of hairstyle, clothing or accessories. Package your own celebrity with all the accoutrements to make him or her appealing to your target population.

3. Give out Samples

Kids love freebies! Make it a point to have experiential sessions' with kids. For instance, you can give away candies or chocolates if you are into this type of business. If you have a new toy, make them try it or play with. Go to school fairs and get a booth where kids can play with toys you are introducing to them.

There are other methods; but those that were mentioned are some basic approaches. The best thing with advertising for kids is this: Have Fun!
