How To Train A Dog

How To Train A Dog

When you buy a new dog, you face some significant challenges

, particularly in the area of training. Learning how to train a dog can be difficult, but not impossible. There are a few habits a new dog seems to have formed, but you can be rest assured that they are simply instinct and NOT habits. These are instincts that can be taken care of early on if you just take the initiative, though you should learn what some of these detrimental 'instincts' are before you start training.

The first thing on the list when learning how to train a dog has to do with pottying, and this refers to the dog urinating or even defecating in the house. If you want to stop the urination, it is important to take the dog outside every half hour to begin with. Each time your dog urinates outdoors, provide a treat and praise profusely. Eventually the animal will learn it is only acceptable to pee outdoors, thereby saving your carpet.

Pooping can be an entirely different story. There are more than a few dogs out therethat are 'poop shy' and will only do it out of your sight. In addition to that, most dogs do not understand the correlation between peeing and pooping, which means they may believe one is acceptable in the house while the other is not. If you are having issues with feces, it could be in your best interest to tether the dog outside where you will not be watching.

Barking and jumping are yet another serious problem. Unless you want the dog jumping on your head every two seconds, you would do well to curb that behavior immediately. It might seem cruel, but having a spray bottle containing water would be within your best interest. Each time the dog attempts to jump on you either on the couch, in your recliner, or at the dinner table, deliver a volley of water and tell the dog "NO". How To Train A Dog

Another major issue with learning how to train a dog is the dog begging at the table. Oftentimes there is nothing more annoying than attempting to eat your meal and having your furry friend begging at your feet, or if it is a small dog, jumping into your lap. This is another spot that the magic spray bottle might come in handy, but when you ask a professional how to train a dog to stay away from the table, their response would be to cage it.

You may be one who is opposed to crating your dog, but it can actually do some good. There are plenty of crates available in all different shapes and sizes at your pet store. Make sure you choose one that fits your dog well. If you have a smaller dog, you can feel free to purchase a larger crate to provide more room, though you should not buy a smaller crate for a larger dog -- even if they will fit.

There are many different aspects to consider when it comes to training a dog, and you will discover this as you go along. The biggest problems you will run into are likely not ON this list, and you will need to learn as you go along.

Despite the obvious complications you will run into learning how to train a dog, a dog is a great companion, and once you work out the kinks, you will find that your dogs are not only easy to deal with, they are actually a pleasure. Start the training process today and enjoy your best friend tomorrow.
