How To: Stress Free Travelling With Your Pet This Christmas

With the Christmas season almost upon us, it is time to start thinking about your holiday travel preparations

. Whether you are having the family round for a big celebration or you are travelling across the country to visit friends and loved ones, do not forget about one of the most important members of the family, the dog! Many people do not like being separated from their canine companions this is why they opt to invest in dog cages and other vehicle modifications to ensure that their dog can travel everywhere they go. One thing to remember is that travelling with a pet can often be stressful, leaving them feeling anxious and scared. If you are planning a trip with your furry friend, here are our tips for travelling safely and arriving in style.

Water may seem like an obvious addition to the car when travelling with pets however it is amazing how many people forget to keep their pets hydrated on long journeys. If you are worried about water damaging your car there are plenty of new pet bowls that are designed to be non-spill and non-slip. Make sure you top up the bowl with fresh water if you are driving for a long time and give your dog the chance to stretch its legs whenever you can.

Keeping your pet calm is key to a long car journey, this means separating it from anything that can cause anxiety. Dog guards and barriers are great tools for keeping pets safely away from other animals, cargo and passengers. If you have more than one dog, a divider is a fantastic investment as it separates boot space to allow each dog their own compartment.

Ensure that you pet is comfortable by adding blankets and perhaps a dog bed to the car. If they are surrounded by home comforts and familiar smells, this will make the journey a lot less stressful and will ensure that they are happy and relaxed when you arrive at your destination. We also recommend surrounding your dog with toys and treats that will keep him distracted throughout the process.

Travelling with your pet does not have to be a stressful process, simply follow these tips and you will have one happy pooch when you arrive at your destination. With so many Christmas parties to attend and people to see, both you and your dog will enjoy a safer, stress free journey.
