How To Save Money On Your Next Spanish Holiday
So when is the best time to travel? Perhaps it's easier to say which is the
most expensive time to travel, which is the months of July and August and especially August. Not only is August the school holidays in Britain but also in Spain, France and the rest of Europe.This means that for these two months not only are the prices at their highest but that everywhere is crowded. Hotels and B&Bs are full enough that they don't necessarily have to bargain with you to get you to stay with them. Restaurants will be busy as will the local attractions, so although this may be the best time to visit; it's not always the most comfortable. However if you do have children and you have to visit in these months then there are things you can do to keep costs down. The first thing is to plan well ahead and book early, I always tell people this even though they probably get tired of hearing it!
It's not impossible to get last minute package deals and it's always worth asking your local travel agent if they keep a list of clients who are looking for last minute bargains. If they do, you can save time by putting your name down and specifying where you want to go and roughly when. Booking car hire in Spain It always surprises me that people will book flights and accommodation early but leave booking car hire until just before they go or even wait until they get there! This can cause quite a problem because walkin (people who walk into the booking office without having pre-booked) often get charged much more than those who pre-booked.
If you're waiting for a last minute deal then naturally you can't pre-book well in advance so always check what you can get car hire wise to ensure that the cost of renting a car in Spain doesn't make your last minute bargain more expensive! If you are planning well in advance book your car hire in Spain at the same time, unlike flights and hotels, car hire prices do not come down the nearer you get to your departure and in many instances will actually go up. Remember that car rental fleets are finite and once all cars are rented there is nothing you can do except go without or, rent from a local company who will undoubtedly put prices up as the law of supply and demand takes over.
Booking accommodation in Spain depending on where you want to go in Spain the choice of accommodation is vast, from self catering villas with private pools to 2 star hotels that provide only the very basic (along with in my experience very hard beds!).
If you can, try staying in one of the beautiful Paradores, not a modern one but one which has been converted from ancient buildings. These offer magnificent old world charm alongside modern conveniences, they can prove expensive so you may want to book just one night, I promise you'll enjoy it! At least you will if you like ancient and modern combined. So visit Spain, enjoy it and remember to book early!
