How To Prepare For A European Backpacking Trip

Planning for a European backpacking trip takes time

. You should begin early if you want to go for a lengthy trip to Europe. Some of the things that you must plan ahead to get checked off your list include planning your finances, getting a passport and getting the necessary equipment to place in the backpack. You will need maps or a GPS device in order to make sure you don't end up in a country where you are not supposed to be.

Proper planning is the critical part of your trip. You will need to have some rough estimate of where you are going before you can decide on routes and some of the other essentials. For example, if you are planning on spending plenty of time outdoors, you will need a good sleeping bag for chilly nights. If you plan to spend a lot of time on the beach, clothing for that purpose will be important.

Once you have decided on a tentative route, you can plan further to identify lodging options as well as dining choices. You may want to take in some music or arts festivals during your backpacking trip, so be sure you check online to look for concert schedules. If you need to purchase tickets in advance, that will allow you to carry less cash with you.

It is important to make sure your travel passports are in order. You will be crossing one or more borders and your identification must be in order. Make sure you are aware of customs regulations in any borders you plan to cross so your crossing will be uneventful.

Clothing is important to your trip. You probably don't want clothing that weighs you down, but it must keep you warm when needed. Laundry facilities may be different that what you are accustomed to, so clothing that can be easily laundered and dries quickly may be important. You will also want the opportunity to dress up a little for a possible more formal occasion. You should have at least one outer garment that will shed water.

Find a pair of good walking shoes and make sure to break them in properly before setting off on a lengthy backpacking trip. Extra pairs of socks will help you keep your feet clean and dry and avoid blisters. Take good care of your feet. You don't want to spend your backpacking trip sitting somewhere waiting for your feet to heal up.

When you have planned your trip, leave your itinerary with someone you trust. You should check in periodically to let someone know you are safe and enjoying your trek. This will probably mean carrying a cellular phone or similar device that works in the countries you plan to visit.
