There is a famous quote by the golfer Gary Player
, who went on to win 9 majors, even though he was smaller in stature than everyone else. He was asked, after hitting an incredible shot to the pin and sinking the putt to win the tournament how he got so lucky to which he replied "The harder I work, the luckier I get."The online marketing industry is full of hype and promises of instant gratification which brings with it an expectation that you don't have to work very hard in order to start making big money, which is not completely accurate - unless you're lucky of course!
The reality of this industry is that you can earn a fabulous income, working from home and only doing part time hours, but it takes a little bit of time. Talking from personal experience, it took me a good 18 months before I was consistently earning at least $20,000 every month.
I was lucky enough to meet a very experienced internet marketer who took me under his wing, for a small price of course and taught me how to work hard on setting up the right processes, research the best products, invest in the best and most effective proven systems and then just let time take care of everything else.
I look back at this meeting (it was at a seminar in London during a coffee break) as a real turning point as my whole outlook, focus, and strategy changed overnight. Those close to me have said that I was lucky to bump into this guy as they have witnessed first hand the lifestyle that I now lead. In some ways I can see why they would say that, but was it really luck?
I remember I was suffering with a cold at the time. I had been in bed all day the day before and had a temperature of 101c. I sacrificed going to my close Uncle's 60th birthday party. It was a miserable looking day and I had to travel an hour to get to the venue. I really had to force myself to go and kept telling myself that I would get something out of it.
Most people would not have gone to the seminar given the above circumstances, but I chose to still do it. I received a free ticket so it was not because of the cost. I kept telling myself that most others would not go so this was even more reason to make sure that I did go. Not only that but I was determined to come back with something that I could put to good use.
I prefer to look at luck as "Good Luck Happens When Opportunity Meets Preparation."
