How To Get A Big Pay Increase Every Year

If you're judged on job performance, you've got a good chance of getting

a larger pay increase if you do a self-evaluation following these pointers:

1.Put together a self-evaluation and give a copy to your manager (or whoever does your performance reviews) a minimum of 8 weeks prior to your performance review is due. The majority of supervisors don't like preparing evaluations and will heavily borrow wording from your self-evaluation if it even comes near to accurately describing your accomplishments.Remember: Always perform a self-evaluation; even a poorly-written self-evaluation is preferable to none.

2.When preparing your self-evaluation, determine your special contributions and focus on their worth to your company. Describe not only the results you achieved, but also the huge benefits your company obtained from your efforts. This takes some amount of both vision and courage. Many good employees incorrectly think they are bragging when writing their self-evaluations and feel embarrassed. Keep in mind: Be fair to yourself when explaining your own achievements; modesty is not important when you are performing a self-evaluation.

3.Maximize the worthiness of your contributions by identifying how your company benefits in the future because of what you did this year. For example, if you won a new client (major or not) for your organization, state that achievement in your self-evaluation, describing how your organization has benefited from the customer this year. Then go further and maximize your worth through identifying how this particular new client plus your relationship with them may reap benefits for your organization next year as well as for years from then on.Remember: You have been completely paid for this year's work; your increase represents what management thinks your upcoming contributions are worth, so tell them.

4.A section of your self-evaluation should be about how exactly you intend to develop your self as an worker. Make your intentions as specific as possible. Rather than vaguely stating that you intend to pursue extra training or perhaps a degree, make a particular statement like "I've enrolled at ___________ University to get a bachelor's diploma (or extra training) in ___________." Don't skimp on writing this particular area of the self-evaluation; make it as complete as you possibly can.

If your company is big enough to hold in-house education courses, identify a few you plan to take or would take if your organization offered them.Keep in mind: Management thinks that an employee who's always developing innovative skills offers more future worth to the organization; more future worth translates into a bigger pay increase now.
