How To Buy A Bespoke Suit

How To Buy A Bespoke Suit

When you buy a bespoke suit, you are making an investment in yourself and spending

quite a bit of money, so you want to get the best value you can for that money. To do this you need to prepare a little and take your time.

The most important part of buying a bespoke suit is finding the right tailor for you. Look for a tailor with whom you feel comfortable, someone who listens to you and someone whose advice makes sense to you. Find a tailor with suits on display in their shop that appeal to your sense of style.

Bespoke suits are by their very nature quite expensive, so you may think that you cannot afford one. However, if you look around you can find a tailor who sells bespoke suits or semi-bespoke suits within your price range.

To have a bespoke suit made you need to attend several fittings with the tailor, so you need to be sure that your tailor is open when you are free to attend. Ask your tailor if they are open in the evenings or if they can come to your office or home for fittings.

When you go to buy a bespoke suit, it is wise to wear your favourite suit. Doing so will help your tailor to understand your current style and see how a suit hangs on you once it has been worn for some time. The shirt, tie and shoes that you wear should be those that you normally wear with that suit. If you wear cuff-links, a tie-pin, a handkerchief, buttonhole or pocket watch, wear those too. When you have a specific colour in mind take something that is that colour with you. The same applies if there is a certain fabric that you like. A sample of the fabric will help the tailor to find that exact fabric or a close match. Some photos from magazines or the internet of suits which appeal to you will help your tailor to understand the kind of suit you are looking for.

You will need to tell your tailor when and where you plan to wear your new suit. This will help your tailor to work out what type and weight of fabric your suit should be made of.
