How Kids Like To Learn

Not every kid does well in school. There are a lot of kids who seem to struggle and have difficulty doing even the most basic things like reading and basic arithmetic. These kids are usually not dumb and are not incapable of learning. Rather they are victims of an inflexible system that is unable to cater to their particular learning needs. This article is going to discuss how some kids learn and how they can be better taught.

The first thing that one needs to realize is that there are different ways that people learn. Many people learn and remember things very well through listening. This type of student is going to have a large amount of success from sitting in a class room listening to their teacher explain things. They essentially have the ability to grasp difficult concepts through understanding stories. If this type of student is struggling you may be able to help them by changing the information that is presented to an audio format.

The second type of leaning ability that many kids possess is through reading. There are many children who get bored or easily distracted when trying to listen to a teacher. For these kids the best solution is to keep their attention with books or other visual media. When these kids read they seem to have a visual memory that almost allows them to picture the images on the paper in their head. This is one of the most powerful methods of learning because it requires very little assistance. Almost all human knowledge is recorded in books and on paper.

The last mode of learning is through writing. This is a little more time consuming because the student must perform one of the above two tasks in order to complete the third. For these kids though the only thing that will make it stick in their brain is to actually process the information and turn it into a physical object. This may not only be through writing but could also be through art or another media. Some children excel by drawing pictures of what they are learning in a way that makes sense to them. This is one of the downfalls of modern schools is they do not allow such behavior. If a child was caught drawing pictures in a modern classroom they would be reprimanded without the teacher ever really realizing that the drawing pertained to what was actually being taught.
