These massive savings were revealed to be mainly set-aside through the use of rewards credit cards, two-for-one vouchers, online vouchers and loyalty offers.
This suggests that familes are likely to undertake a credit card comparison to find the best reward credit cards.
Rewards credit cards can also be used to collect points which will generally save money on purchases as well as offering exclusive deals to customers.
These cards can include cash back, discount rewards or just points to spend in a specific store.
They could also include 0% purchase credit card to help families budget without paying interest.
Some of these such as the Virgin Money credit card combine 0% rates with discounts on brands, Virgin in this case.

Summer vacations abroad can cost an average of 1295 and this expense may be the reason that only 28% are flying away to new destinations.
A 'stay-vacation' is becoming the vogue family get-away, 40% of families only travelling to locations within the UK.
These holidays cost much less, averaging 893 per trip.
The remaining 32% are choosing to stay at home and take no holiday of any kind, which is a guaranteed way of saving money and leaving more for family excursions.
When used correctly, credit cards can generally alleviate the strain of an expensive month.
14% of those surveyed are using this method to spread the cost of the summer out over a longer period.
