How Dental Recruitment Has Learned A Lesson, From Online Dating

In order to understand the problem with dental recruitment at the moment

, and how things are now changing for the better, let's look at online dating. It may seem wholly unrelated, but bear with me, as this demonstrates clearly not only how dental recruitment is changing, but how other industries could change too.

So for the purpose of this explanation let's imagine that we're not looking for dental jobs, or wanting to advertise dental vacancies, but instead we're after a date. Imagine if you will, the following scenario. A young man, full of enthusiasm approaches a dating agency, who then asks him to fill in a long form. He does so, hands it in, and then walks away. He sits at home as the weeks go by, waiting to hear something from the agency. Perhaps in the meantime he approaches another dating agency, who also asks him to fill in an equally long form, repeating almost everything he included on the first one, after which he is again forced to sit at home twiddling his fingers as the weeks go by.

It is unlikely that our Romeo would be particularly happy with this, and of course there's a real danger that as soon as the agency gets round to offering him the details of a possible match, he'll jump at the first one offered, rather than feel he has a broad choice. As far as blind dates are concerned, this one could end up being fairly desperate, and few people would argue that in today's world this level of service is acceptable. And yet people are accepting it. Not for dating, but for things such as dental jobs.

For anyone looking for dental vacancies the only real method has been to approach dental recruitment agencies, fill in duplicate forms by hand at each one, then sit at home waiting for them to get round to providing you with the details of a possible vacancy in which you might be interested. Indeed it isn't just dental recruitment which is suffering this way, as there are many other industries finding the same problem with recruitment.

So let's return to our dating example again, and see how with today's technology and online networking this has been made much more accessible and more effective. Our Romeo logs on to a dating website, where he can immediately start browsing potential matches based on a few basic criteria. He's looking for a woman, between the ages of 24 and 30, living in Blackpool and who doesn't smoke. Within seconds he's shown a full list of potential matches with photos, locations, ages and a few other basic details.

After quickly registering on the site, for free, he is able to upload a pre-prepared biography, a photo and a few other bits of information, after which he is able to then directly contact anyone who he feels may be compatible. Once registered he can fill in a lot more information such as likes, dislikes, level of education and such like, which helps the online dating agency to narrow down the results automatically generated for him, increasing the likelihood of compatibility. He can also make his profile public so that anyone looking for someone like him will find him, and get in touch directly.

Clearly the second example is a far more effective solution, yet it is only very recently that dental recruitment has ventured down this path. A new online networking site has recently been established to help those dental professionals looking for dental jobs find them quickly and easily, without having to wait for a third party in the middle to keep them waiting for weeks.

Dental surgeries are also able to benefit from this new form of dental recruitment as they can now publish dental vacancies online without having to pay huge agency fees, and both professionals and surgeries can find each other using similar criteria based methods to those in our dating example. In fact it's such a successful venture that many people have already fallen in love with it!
