There are a lot of auto repair shops, car care and maintenance shops who claim to support the community, but no one does it quite as well as Community Auto of Grand Rapids. For more than twenty years, Community Auto of Grand Rapids has been supporting Gilda's Club of Grand Rapids in hopes to fight cancer and figure out new ways of combating the disease. Community involvement brings people closer together.
For those of you who haven't heard about Gilda's Club, it a cancer support group that focuses on laughter as a way of therapy. Statistically, patients who have a more positive outlook towards like tend to be survivors of cancer. The happier a person is, and the greater their zest for living, the more likely they are to beat the disease. These sentiments are nice, but the truth is that cancer is tough disease to live with. There are days when a cancer patient may not feel like laughing or having fun, but Gilda's club brings fun and laughter to the sick. With enough emotional support, people struggling with the disease will not feel as alone.
Gilda was a member of the Saturday Night Live cast when she was diagnosed with cancer. She fought against it for years, but eventually succumbed to the disease and died. This foundation was set up in her name. Spread all over the country, different Gilda chapters do things to raise awareness about the different ways to combat the disease.
From March 10-20th, 2011, Gilda's Club Grand Rapids was part of the LaughFest event held in Grand Rapids. Ten days of laughter and fun, this event is great thing for the community. Community Automotive is getting involved by donating fifteen dollars from every Gilda's Fund Oil Change.
