The movie Water for Elephants is magical ride that depicts the life in the circus. Directed by Francis Lawrence, this movie proves that Reese Witherspoon is indeed the most talented young actress with ability to transform to any age. This movie is produced by Kevin Halloran, and the famous writer Richard LaGravenese wrote the screen play for this. Interestingly the love for circus life starts in Jacob after he meets the untrained elephant while traveling on rickety train.
In Water for Elephants we see the dramatic journey of young man named Jacob Jankowski. He is inspired by the life in circus. The circus in this movie is Benzini Brothers, the most famous circus around in the heydays. The accidental chance meeting of Rob with the circus crew in an train causes him to rethink about his life. When he compares the life with the one in circus he has to select the other world. Leaving the life of comfort was not easy but charm of the circus and the illusive Reese Witherspoon in there make it easy.
The film starts in the early part of the great depression. The life in circus became the salvation that took the uplifted Jacob from being an ordinary young man to friend of animals. Becoming vet for the animals especially the elephants and horses is also quite touchingly shown in here as well.
The role of Marlena is essentially the key to this movie, she is beautiful, confident, and extremely kind hearted stage performer played by Reese. While this book is based upon the incidents in the novel of same name, there are some parts which are added to follow the structure of the large screen medium. Even though the book by Sara Gruen was targeted for the younger audiences, the film has provided the chance for audience from the grownup side as well.
Robert Patrtinson is the main lead of the movie. He shows the truly remarkable adventure that happens during the transformation in a young man's life. The role of Jacob might seem quite straight forward, but this has many shades too. Even the remarkable scenes of first meeting between Marlene and him are unforgettable to start with. The gradual intensity and drama is increased little by little to the point when Jacob is shown old and gray remembering the past.
