This area is full of springs, leading the way to Villavicencio's Hot Springs.The Villavicencio Natural Reservoir, located only a few miles from the capital, on the way to Uspallata, was inaugurated in 2001. This natural reserve spreads over 70,000 hectares, all of them carefully preserved due to their biological diversity and their historical, cultural and archaeological value. The autochthonous flora includes the sweet carob, the myrtle, the broom, the marancel, the sarsaparilla and the chaar. The fauna can be identified according to two different geographical zones: Andean and Central. The typical mammals are the guanacos, chinchillas, bobcats, grey and red foxes, and cougars. The most typical birds are the condor, the rhea and the eagle.
The Hot Springs of Villavicencio are settled 1800 meters above the sea level, and the thermal waters are known for its mineral and healing properties. Just a few meters away we can find the Villavicencio Hot Springs Hotel, built in 1940 in a Norman style. Its gorgeous gardens and parks are part of an unforgettable tour at any time of the year.
