. No wonder they make a good niche for a home-based business. You can use them for your centerpieces. A clear glass bowl or vase can hold the floating candles, and you can add crystal fibers or colorfill vase filler to the bowl or glass.Then accentuate the centerpiece with submersible floralyte or vase light. Other accessories like vase gems, ice cubes, crystals, beach glass, crystal sand or sea shells can be placed at the bottom of the bowl. Besides sunflower, other famous floating flower candles are silk flowers, water hyacinth, water lily and lotus.
In making a flower floating candle, customized molds should be used. There are many shops where you can buy these molds. They usually come in two-piece molds like sunflower. Roses and orchids are usually made from wax sheets cut into petal shapes and wrap around a wick. Today, the flower floating candle model is a sunflower or daisy from a two-piece mold.
Begin the process by inserting a wick through the center of the bottom part of the mold and out through the top mold. Hence, the two pieces of mold are joined together with a wick at the center. Now, after all your molds are threaded together with a wick, melt an appropriate weight of wax on a melting pot.
Set the molds on your container such as a can or tall glass, and using a clothespin or any binder, bind the sides of the molds. The molds are usually on a center of a square. Bind securely the four sides of the molds. Wait until your wax melts and reaches 180 degrees Fahrenheit. And when it does, you add your fragrance oil, and followed by your coloring agent. The fragrance oil and coloring agent should be compatible with your wax for enhanced effect. Stir the mixture thoroughly for several minutes and remove from the heat.
Monitor the temperature of your wax mixture. The best temperature to pour the wax into the molds is between 170 and 180 degrees. If you have to re-heat it, then do it. Floating flower candles should be handled with caution and care especially that you are making them for your home-based business. You do not want anything that could ruin your reputation as a candle-maker.
As you have reached the ideal temperature, slowly pour the wax mixture through the hole on the mold. The hole is naturally-made on the top piece of the mold. If the wick goes sideways, you can move it back to the center after pouring. When you have filled all molds with wax mixture, allow some time to let the wax cool. You may observe that the wax shrinks as it solidifies. Well, this is normal. As soon as you see some skin on top of the floating flower candles, you may do a second pour to fill in the gaps. Some floating candles may require a third pour.
Set the candles on a safe place for the cooling process to complete. An overnight is ideal. Once the floating flower candles have completely solidified, pull the molds apart to release the candle. If it is stubborn, you can place it on a freezer for two or five minute and try again. Cut the wick into appropriate size and you have just made your floating candles for your home-based business.
