Holidaying Outside The Eurozone Offers Good Value For Money
With the weakening pound, choosing to holiday outside of the eurozone often gives British tourists better value for their money
. Croatia is one of the few European countries to avoid adopting the Euro, which makes the low exchange rate appealing to many British tourists.Meri Matestic, the director of the Croatian National Tourist Office, says the country is becoming more popular because of "the good value for money it offers, plus the irrefutably stunning natural and cultural beauty".
The currency in Croatia is the Kuna. Whilst the weakening of the pound has meant holidays to the eurozone have become more expensive, in Croatia you can get eight Kunas for one pound.
Tourists looking for a luxurious holiday at a destination which will give you more spending money should consider a something different: a yacht charter. Croatia's south coast borders the Adriatic Sea, where there are 1,700 islands, islets and cliffs. What better way to see the stunning coastal views than by spending time on them. By chartering a yacht you can explore the country's coastline, sail alongside the cliffs and see the uninhibited islands that the ferries won't take you to.
There are many ports in Croatia, including the island Port of Hvar which is the main tourist port and the 4th most populated island in the country. It's listed in the top 10 islands by Conde Nast Traveller magazine. With almost 3,000 hours of sunlight a year, Hvar has a Mediterranean climate that attracts the sun worshipping tourists. It's also one of the two most famous wine making zones in Croatia; the southern side of island is famous for its red wine.
It's also a popular destination with young people, thanks to the great value for money the area offers, and the popularity of late night discos.
Hvar offers a wealth of tourist attractions. It's rich history includes one of the largest town squares in Croatia, overlooked by a fortress that encompasses parts of the town. One end of the square is dominated by the Cathedral of St. Stephen, which was built in the 16th and 17th centuries. It's four stories high, with each level more elaborately decorated than the last. It was built over a previously existing cathedral that was destroyed. Parts of the original cathedral can be seen from inside the church.
There's plenty on offer for art fans too. Hvar's nuns are famous for making lace from the threads of agava leaves. Hvar also has a unique method of engraving and decorating ceramics with ornaments which has only been discovered on the island. It's been called "hvarska kultura", which means "Hvar's culture".
Croatia is most popular during the peak season between May and September, and especially on national holidays such as Statehood Day on the 25th of June, Victory Day and National Thanksgiving Day on the 5th of August and Feast of the Assumption on the 15th of August.
