Holidaying On The Coast In The Very Best North Norfolk Hotels

Those who have already had the pleasure of holidaying in Holt will know that it is home to some of the very best North Norfolk hotels

. This lovely, Georgian town is sandwiched between the popular holiday spots of Wells-next-the-Sea and Cromer, ideal both for family outings to the beach and long, leisurely walks along the saltmarshes of Morston, Blakeney, Salthouse and Cley.

Holt itself is a wonderful place and, as it is also home to Gresham's, one of the best-known private schools in the country, it is really rather well-heeled. Jewellers, antique shops, galleries and gift shops jostle for space with trendy outdoor clothing companies Joules and Fat Face, while the independent department store Bakers & Larners is a nod to yesteryear with its food hall, aga shop and delightful delicatessen.

With its many shops, bars, pubs and eateries, Holt makes the perfect base for a few days away, whether a long weekend to escape the hustle and bustle of work, or a more laid-back family holiday. Located just three miles from the coast, it is well situated for country pursuits such as birdwatching and bike-riding, while the steam train from Holt to Sheringham is also well worth a look.

Sheringham, the next town along the coast to the east, has a lovely beach, a collection of seaside shops and a popular theatre, while the National Trust's Sheringham Park is a great place to spend a morning or afternoon walking, particularly in late spring when its famous rhododendron bushes are in full bloom.

The next stop eastwards is Cromer, well-known for its bucket and spade approach to things, with countless shops selling things for the seaside, all manner of fish and chip shops, and a pier with a popular end of the pier show. Cromer is probably most famous for the crabs that it produces, these are used in some of the best restaurants around the area.
