, on the border of the West Pennine Moors, Bolton is an interesting industrial town with a long history. In recent years it has undergone a high degree of economic redevelopment, and has benefitted from much business investment. Today, things are discussed in offices and meeting rooms. However, Bolton still has a strong industrial hub, with a number of companies which survived the post-industrial decline. Probably the best known is Warburtons bakery, which was founded in 1876. Other long-established employers include steel foundries, textile producers, transport companies, paper manufacturers and British Aerospace.
The latter part of the 20th century saw an influx of call centres, electronics companies, IT firms and retailers into the town, lured by low business rates and investment in new retail, business and leisure parks. These include the Middlebrook Retail Park, Bolton Arena and the Reebok Stadium. The latter is known for being the new home of Bolton Wanderers Football Club, as well as the European headquarters for the Reebok brand.
Current projects include the regeneration of Church Wharf, renovation of the Merchants Quarter, and development of the Bolton Innovation Zone - a massive investment centred on the University of Bolton. The largest and most impressive of our meeting rooms, it was originally a Tudor Catholic church dating back to 1512. The magnificent vaulted ceiling, arched leaded-glass windows and intricate tiling make it a superb venue for weddings, corporate hospitality events, charity banquets and themed parties.
