2010 sees major changes in the Benelux organisation. The Benelux Economic Union had a 50 year contract which expired in 2008. This has been replaced by a new legal framework, which will see the launch of a renamed and vastly improved Benelux Union. The aim of the new treaty is to enlarge and enhance cooperation internally between the 3 Benelux member states, and internationally, with their European partners. Overall, the treaty has been simplified and restructured, concentrating on 3 main areas: internal market and economic growth; durability, and justice and internal affairs.
