Haunting Halloween Fun in Eastbourne over Half Term
Halloween in Eastbourne lasts for more than a day!
Halloween in Eastbourne brings a great half term choice of activities, with events including a Halloween trail at a Napoleonic fortress, shriek week at The Times' No.1 attraction, and a wet and wild H20 party.
With Halloween starting at the beginning of half term in Eastbourne families are spoilt for choice with activities kicking off at Drusillas Zoo Park with its Shriek Week starting on Saturday 23 October, with spooky surprises and the chance to meet mini monsters with a Creepy Crawlies day.
Visitors looking to discover Eastbourne's heritage as well as prepare for a fright should head to the Redoubt Fortress on the seafront, a Napoleonic fortress housing war collections, which will be hosting a Halloween trail. Visitors will be able to navigate through the exhibition rooms and tunnels, with mask-making activities keeping the children amused.
Fisherman's Green, further along the seafront sees Ride N Joy holding a special Halloween quadricycle day on 31 October for families looking to take in the fresh sea air and explore Sovereign Harbour Marina, with discounted bike hire and traditional toffee apples on offer.
The Observatory Science Centre near Eastbourne in Herstmonceux, is holding an Open Evening with a Halloween twist. Visitors can discover the night sky through some of the country's largest telescopes while the children make flying bats and screaming balloons.
If you fancy something a little more energetic, Eastbourne's Sovereign Centre is staging a Halloween H20 Party with a wet and wild evening in the fun pool, including a disco, flume races, pool volleyball and dance competitions.
The spook-fest continues throughout the week culminating in a thrilling weekend from 30-31 October with the Halloween Ghost Walks on Beachy Head promising the scariest stories yet as visitors hear gory tales of sightings on the Downs.
If ghosts, bats and creepy crawlies are not your thing then there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy. The 30th Beachy Head Marathon takes place on Saturday 23 October as 1,750 runners from around the world take on the beautiful but challenging 26-mile cross-country course, with a special event for juniors.
Sporty youngsters can enjoy outdoor activities during half-term too with Spray Watersports offering courses in junior windsurfing and sailing with taster sessions also available.
Eastbourne's award-winning gallery Towner, offers visitors the chance to browse its new ARTIST ROOMS exhibition featuring works by Robert Mapplethorpe, and will also be welcoming Antony Penrose on 23 October for a talk and book signing as he recalls memories of happy times spent with Picasso at his home Farley Farm in Sussex.
Artistic families can head to Towner during half-term to take part in The Big Draw on 26 and 27 October and help to create a giant board game about an imaginary place, with gallery visitors invited to play it for the rest of the week.
