As guests arrive, the last thing you want to worry about is a clogged drain pipe or a faulty septic tank. During this time of year, your septic system will be hard at work and we want to share a few words of advice which will help you maintain it as much as possible. 1. As your septic system will be hard at work during the holidays, it is important that you let your system rest after heavy use. This will help you maintain it and add years to its life.
2. Hard food objects do not easily dissolve in the septic tank. Avoid throwing hard food objects in the garbage disposal and discard them into the garbage can. Not only will this keep your garbage disposal working more efficiently, but it will also keep your septic system working great.
3. To ensure that your system is properly working, try to avoid overloading it. For example, do not do your laundry while running the dishwasher as this will have your system working extra hard. Also, if you have guests over, do not run the dishwasher while the restroom is being used often.
4. If you are aware that you septic tank has not been pumped in the last 3 to 5 years, be sure to have it inspected and pumped by a professional soon. There may be an excess amount of sludge buildup in your tank and this can cause it to malfunction. Try to get this out of the way before the holidays so you can enjoy without any worry.
