It is like a time machine inherited from generation to generation whether it works or not. Classic timepieces are probably some of the most expensive forms of heirlooms.
If you would notice, dying grandfathers in the movies would pass on their old watches to their grandsons. I think it is not just a way to make the most of a drama movie. It also teaches the audience the importance of family values and preserving a family tradition.
Apart from watches, gold or stainless steel cufflinks are good forms of family heirlooms to pass on. They are easy to keep and you can use it for special occasions.
Usually, well-known personalities and celebrities these days are wearing their classic cufflinks to special occasions. Of course, these accessories get easily noticed because they stand out. Classic accessories symbolize timeless beauty and I think it is a priceless gift you can give. Not everybody gets to have at least a really nice classic watch or cufflinks.
Purchasing them would only make you a collector. If you really do not mind being a collector instead, you can take all the watches and cufflinks you could buy. If you value family traditions, I suggest you take care of every single heirloom passed on to you.
It does not have to be a watch or a pair of cufflinks. As long as it has been in the family for years, you can call it an heirloom. Your task now is to take care of it the best way you can. When the time comes, you will be passing them on to your grandchildren for the same reason.
