a group of people such as; a member of a society, employee of a company and a group of professionals in a certain common group.
Group coverage can prove helpful in reducing the problem of unfavorable selection by forming a group of people eligible to buy insurance. These people are those who belong to the group not because they share some high-risk factor which makes them more apt to purchase insurance (thus increasing unfavorable selection). Another salient feature of group coverage is that under this, a member of the group is fully eligible to buy or renew coverage even during the period when he/she is a member of a group. Thus, group insurance allows a person to remain covered as long as he or she continues to work for a certain employer and pays the required insurance premiums. Contrary to it, in case of other individual coverage, the insurance company may not allow a person to renew an individual health insurance policy when the policy is up for renewal.
