Many times this condition is confused with other skin related problems. The condition may look as if it is been bitten by a worm, or as an adverse reaction to an allergy. There are several skin cancers and disorders that also show the same kind of rings on the skin. This is the number one reason why confusion begins. But it should be noted that this disease is not lethal in any way, and will not do any permanent damage to your skin or any other part of the body. Given time these bumps will disappear by themselves.
What are the symptoms that granuloma causes?
The primary symptom is these lesions or rashes, which are red, slightly raised and bumpy. They appear in the form of rings or circles. In some patients they might even be a little itchy, ranging from mild to severe. Rarely multiple rings can be found in the body, even across the joints. There are many people who only have a spot on their skin to show that they have this condition. Depending on how much the lesions have spread across your body, the itching also persists.
How is the condition diagnosed?
A small section of the skin is taken in order to examine it. This is usually done on order to determine if the condition indeed is granuloma and not anything else. It is best to see a skin specialist in such cases to determine the exact nature of the condition and to get the condition treated, if necessary. Blood tests are also taken to rule out other skin related problems and complications.
How can granuloma be treated?
As mentioned above, these bumps usually disappear with time and do not require treatment. However, those who have large patches of skin that is affected can go for treatment by exposing themselves to ultraviolet light. The use of corticosteroids can also help reduce the rashes and help make them less visible.
