Good Clean Fun With Kids

A fun activity to do with kids is to make glycerin soap

. Glycerin soap is gentle on skin due to the extra moisturizers. Using a clear soap gives you the chance to put small toys in the soap for even more fun.

Clear "melt and pour" soap can be purchased in large blocks. Once melted, fragrances and color can be added to the soap as desired. The melted soap is then poured into molds to cool and harden.

Since melt and pour soap making is so simple, it is a great project for kids. There are no harmful chemicals to mix, so it is quite safe to handle. Children do need to exercise care not to cut their fingers with the knife, and to keep their fingers out of the hot soap.

Instead of using melt and pour soap, you could make your own soap. This method would be slightly more complicated and would require more adult supervision. Making transparent soap involves more steps than regular cold process soap making.

When using melt and pour soap, first cut the block into smaller pieces and melt them in the top of a double boiler or microwave. If you plan to add surprises to the soap, put small toys into the soap molds while the soap is melting. Make sure to put the toys in face down so they can be seen from the front of the soap.

Fragrances can be added after the soap is melted. Pour the melted soap over the top of the toys and fill the soap molds. Let the soap cool and harden.

The soap needs to be completely cooled and hardened before you try removing it from the mold. If the soap is still warm, it will bend when you try to remove it. After removing the soap from the mold, wrap it in plastic.

Your soap is now finished and ready for use or giving as a gift. Children will love bath time as they wash their way closer to the toy in the center. Getting clean has never been so much fun!
