If you have no identified goals to strive for and no plans for improving yourself, then what are you living for? This is certainly not to say that people cannot be successful if they do not develop goals, but life is much more meaningful when you striving to grow and working toward meaningful goals. You must begin to accept yourself as a person worthy of accomplishing great things. Goals are like a road map, showing you where you want to go and telling you approximately how long it will take to get there. Plans are the "how" of goal setting. Plans delineate the steps you need to take along the way to arrive at your destination. Not only does writing your goals down help you to see clearly what it is that you aspire to accomplish, but seeing them written down motivates you into taking action.

Once you have taken the time and effort to write specifically what you want to achieve, the desire to accomplish those goals emerge from within you. There is power in writing things down on paper. The Bible puts it this way: "Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but in the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." (Habakkuk 2:2). There is a resurgence of taking on the world that overwhelms you once you see your vision on paper.

However, once you get your goals down on paper, you must not file them away, never to look at them again. You must spend time examining and memorizing them. Do not let the motivation die. You have everything you need inside of you to accomplish your goals. The only one that can stop you from pursuing your goals is YOU!You are the master of your own destiny. You are the captain of your ship.

It's time to raise the level of your thinking by shifting your mind from, "New Year's Resolutions" to "Life's Mission and Meaning." Forget about the resolutions and focus on goal-setting and strategic planning! You only get out of life what you invest in it. I once read that only 3% of Americans develop goals and strive to achieve them. Three percent! Why? because people with goals and plans succeed in life, while most people without them fail. It is no coincidence that the top three percent of the wealthiest people in the nation own more than half the wealth in America. They did not get there by accident that's for sure. Now when are you going to get started on your goals?
