Whether for the thrill of go kart racing or just going down a chosen course at seemingly breakneck speeds, nothing is quite as exciting and fun as go karts for the famly. The design of go karts is extremely important to make it a safe go kart race. Go karts with a low center of gravity and wide stance allows go karts to make high speed turns without a mishap. While only averaging twenty-five to thirty miles per hour go karts create the sensation of traveling at a much faster speed. It is a true thrill! Some go karts are capable of much higher speeds but those are recommended for the racetrack and trained drivers.
When deciding to build a go kart from scratch the first consideration should be given to its use. If the go kart is to run on dirt roads or grass lawns, it will need larger wheels. Go karts designed exclusively for paved surfaces can be made lower to the pavement with the use of smaller wheels and tires.
Fitting axles with a rear differential will give the go kart two-wheel drive and better traction. Wide tires with special treads designed for off road use can make it an almost go anywhere vehicle.
A roll bar makes any go kart look cool and is a great place for adding accessories. It should be made strong enough to protect the driver in the rare event of a rollover.
Building two-seater go karts is a good idea for eliminating arguments as to who gets left behind. This allows families to share the fun, thrills and hopefully not too many spills!
All go karts need brakes but the faster it can go the better the breaks should be. A simple pad that presses against the rear tires when the break pedal is applied is fine for slow moving go karts. A better system with hydraulic disc brakes on both rear wheels may be needed for off road conditions and racing speeds.
It's also a good idea to have multiple go karts gor increasing fun and including more of the family in the sport.
