Getting Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

Some people do have enough room in their mouth to comfortably fit an extra four teeth

, and if that is the case for you, consider yourself lucky. If not, getting them removed will only be painful for a couple of days and they it's over.

There are many reasons why wisdom teeth need to be removed; one of those reasons is that there is simply not enough room. Sometimes the mouth is already full after the 12-year molars come it, and any more simply will not fit.

These cases need to be removed very soon because the back molars are trying to come in, but cannot because there isn't any place for them to go. This can be very painful for someone, because of the pressure of the molars trying to come out of the gums.

The pain in the back of your mouth will probably prompt you to ask your dentist or oral surgeon to remove the teeth. This is really the smartest choice, and though the pain of the surgery will last for a couple of days, it is better than a lifetime of pain every time you chew.

Another reason to get your wisdom teeth removed is because they are impacting. This means that they are coming in side-ways are are pushing against your back molars. This too can be very painful, and can cause some permanent damage to the placing of your teeth.

Impacting molars push on the surrounding teeth, causing them to move forward, creating a domino effect on the teeth. This will not only cause pain in the back of your mouth, but in the front as all of the teeth start pushing to make room.

In cases like these, the dentist or oral surgeon may have to break the tooth to get it out. Sometimes the impacting tooth will not come out as a whole because of its angle, and need to be broken to come out completely.

Another reason for getting your wisdom teeth removed is over-crowding. This means that there is no room in your mouth, and the emerging molars will cause the rest of your teeth to shift, causing a nightmare for orthodontists.

If overcrowding is not taken care of, all of the teeth in your mouth may move, altering your bite, smile, and alignment. This type of damage can only be fixed by removing the emerging wisdom teeth. If they are not removed, all of the damage they cause will be permanent.

If your dentist or orthodontist suggests that you remove your wisdom teeth, you should follow their advice. Those last four molars have a huge effect on the way everything in your mouth works.

Your smile is no doubt important, and removing crowded or impacting wisdom could improve your smile greatly. Sometimes after the last molars are removed, it allows more room for your other teeth to be moved into a position to give you the straightest set of teeth that you have ever been able to achieve.

More importantly than your beautiful smile though, is your oral health. If it is recommended that you have teeth pulled, that advice should be followed to ensure that you are able to keep a healthy set of teeth for the longest amount of time possible.

Getting your wisdom teeth pulled is not as scary as you might think, you have the option of getting put to sleep or even get laughing gas to make sure that you don't feel, remember or car about the pain. And after you leave, you are given pain medication so you will not be miserable and overwhelmed with pain. Instead, you will mostly sleep and eat apple juice and slushees.
