Take Home Whitening Kits
Another popular method that patients use to whiten their teeth is to get a take home whitening kit from their dentist. Your dentist is able to fully customize the kit to your bite to achieve the optimal amount of whitening. Once you and your dentist have decided to use a take home kit to whiten your teeth, he or she will begin the process by taking detailed impressions of your teeth. From this, your dentist will be able to construct a set of trays that will fit perfectly to your teeth. Once you get home, you will apply whitening gel to the trays and then wear them for about one hour. After doing this every day for approximately two weeks, your teeth will become much whiter. There are also take home methods that require you to wear your trays overnight.
Over The Counter Whitening
The cheapest and most easily accessible method of whitening is doing so with an over the counter product. Whitening gels, strips and toothpastes can be found at most drug stores for a relatively cheap price. You can generally achieve some level of whitening with these products, but you will not be able to whiten your teeth to the level of a dentist-approved method with these products. This is because they do not offer the same level of hydrogen peroxide as dentist-approved methods. They also are not customized to fit your mouth.
