French Strikes

French Strikes

This week has seen striking across the world due to changes in workers conditions

, and it had unfortunately affected flights going in and out of the UK. Yesterday flights to and from Spain, and some flights to Belgium were cancelled by airlines such as British Airways, ryanair and easyjet, due to strikes all over Europe.

And it doesn't end here. Four hundred flights between France and the uk have been affected today as a result of a walk out by air traffic controllers.

There have been strikes and walk outs all month by French traffic controllers, with mass street protests against the raising of the retirement age last week, and with more than one million workers taking to the streets, the unions hope that the demonstrations will be bigger this week.

The Eurotunnel and P and O ferries are not expecting to experience any delays due to the fact that they are staffing their vehicles and vessels with British and Belgian workers. Eurostar have warned travellers that they may meet some demonstration when the trains stop at the Gare du Nord.

The CEO of Ryanair said "The European Commission and Parliament keep banging on about passenger rights during flight delays, when in reality most of this summer's flight delays have been caused by European Governments' abject failure to manage their air traffic services, with the result that Europe's airlines and passengers are blackmailed by controllers' strikes, go slows and the feeble management which runs Europe's national Air Traffic Control monopolies."

If you are planning on travelling then make sure you have Travel Insurance to cover any unexpected cancellations.
