Frank L. VanderSloot- The Man Behind Melaleuca Inc

Frank L. VanderSloot has built up a multimillion dollar, award winning, rapid growth company from scratch- Melaleuca Inc. He is obviously a great businessman, and has also been recognized as having strong ethics, and working for the good of the people. But surely, a man of such power has got to have a few dirty secrets?

VanderSloot is a family man, with a grand total of 14 children and step-children.. Melaleuca's compensation plan was designed to provide support to family life rather than disrupt it. Instead of asking reps to dedicate their lives to developing their Melaleuca business, he encourages his executives to keep their full time job, and use any Melaleuca income to supplement and enhance their current earnings. He recognizes the importance a healthy family life has on business, and so actively encourages his execs to find a perfect balance between work and family.

This desire to improve family welfare perhaps comes from his childhood. His family struggled financially when he was younger, and this has obviously had an affect on him. He does not want any of his customers to struggle as he did. This nurturing and caring attitude also stems from his dedication to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He remains actively involved in his local church, and is committed to helping his community out.

A squeaky clean, ethical CEO of a multi-million dollar company? Sounds too good to be true. Well unfortunately, it is. Whilst VanderSloot seems to be a man of the people, he sadly does not agree with homosexuality, and is very vocal about it. VanderSloot has publicly condemned same sex relationships, has launched several high profile campaigns against same sex marriage, the presence of homosexuals on television, and against certain homosexual journalists.

So just like many, many CEOs, VanderSloot has his flaws. But should this take away from what he has accomplished as a businessman? Whether or not you agree with his views, he has built up a highly successful company. Let's not forget he has enriched the lives of thousands of Melaleuca customers, and has donated a generous sum to the Hurricane Katrina relief fund. There is also little to suggest that homosexuals can't purchase Melaleuca products, or take part in the business development side of things.

VanderSloot is not without his flaws, but one thing is for sure- he is a great businessman.
