For Weight Loss, Try The Low Fat Diet

For Weight Loss, Try The Low Fat Diet

We all know that being obese, puts us at a risk of several diseases like heart problems

, diabetes etc. The primary reason behind gaining extra weight is that we consume more calories than needed by the body, which our body stores as fat. Now, why does it happen? Because as far as I know, everyone eats only when they feel hungry and feeling hungry is the sign given to us by our body that it needs food. I did some research and found that it happens because when we take foods which have high fat content, they gives us a lot of calories even from a small portion. So this is where low fat diet works. Even without being on any diet, a person should not consume fat more than 30% of the total calorie intake in a day.

As the name suggests, low fat diet means a diet program in which all the food intake has low fat content. But it does not mean that no fats should be consumed. Because from many years, people have been blaming fats for the prime cause of obesity and it is true to some extent. But not all fats are bad. Fats are needed to provide energy to our body. So some fats like unsaturated fats and fatty acids like omega 3 are good, even necessary for our body as they are needed for many physiological processes. Any diet can be a low fat diet if it doesnt contains fat more than 30% of the total calories intake. Now how to do this? Instead of replacing their high fat foods by healthier and natural options, many people resort to low fat versions of their favorite food which are easily available in the market. But they forget that low fat label doesnt means low calories as these low fat versions of popular foods are packed with extra sugar, preservative and artificial flavors to taste exactly like the desired food. These all leads to a low fat but high calories food replacements. Therefore, we should keep in mind that low fat diet means substituting unhealthier options by much healthier and easily available natural options like whole grains, fruits and vegetable. Limit the intake of red meat and in case of beef; opt for the grounded lean beef option. The use of dairy products like milk, yogurt, fresh cream, ice cream and butter etc. should be restricted too as these all contain high percentage of fat. Instead replace the important dairy product like milk by the low fat or skimmed milk.

Other healthy practices for a healthier you are like avoiding all foods which contain partially hydrogenated fats or trans-fats. These fats are really bad for you. And instead of using butter or oil to keep the food moist, use broth. Opt for a low fat diet and enjoy the newer, fitter you.
