For College Kids, Safety First Starts With The Parents

Your kids might be off to college but that doesn't mean it's time to forget
about paying the daily bills and trusting that everything is okay with them and there are no more worries. Your troubles might only be starting. Insurance is vital when it comes to the health of your kids once they leave home and if they aren't covered properly, look out. Start preparing in advance so that the best experience of their lives doesn't turn into a nightmare because of a lack of insurance.
There is also the issue of whether or not this new student will be able to continue with the parental insurance coverage. This is something that needs to be looked into before the move to a school that is a good distance from home. Insurance companies have limits about what providers can be used as well as how far their coverage will extend without costing more out of pocket. Some companies will only allow a child to be covered until age 21, and that is not enough time usually for anyone to finish school.
The colleges will take care of helping with insurance cover and will normally have a company and a clinic set up on campus, and that is important since most students, especially, freshmen, have no access to transportation. Also, most students are at the college because of financial aid of some sort. Don't take your chances.
If the student doesn't have parental coverage or a school plan, you'd better do some investigating before it is too late. Independent health insurance companies aren't always that expensive and sometimes less expensive than the ones offered by the college. Do your homework and compare numbers and you might find a better deal than the ones advertised by the college.
Your kid is in college to get an education and not to worry about what happens if they get injured at that frat mixer. Make sure they can spend their college years with no worries about insurance coverage and all of those other things that they will be worried about as soon as they walk across that stage in a few years.
