Five Majorcan resorts for your next holiday

Five Majorcan resorts for your next holiday

Booking a last minute holiday? What about a summer getaway for 2011

? Either way, maybe it is time to explore what the island of Majorca has to offer. With many, many resorts, you're sure to find what you need. Here are five resorts that may be to your liking.

ALCUDIA

Located on the north coast of the island, Alcudia is perfect for family holidays. Its traditional old town sits two miles inland from the newest coastal development where many hotels back out onto gorgeous sands. The magnificent Bat of Alcudia runs for over 8km through Playa de Muro and onto the resort of C'an Picafort.

C'AN PICAFORTFive Majorcan resorts for your next holiday

The town has a strong German influence and many bars and restaurants reflect this. While not a purpose built tourist resort, C'an Picafort saw its tourism grow from a small fishing village into a popular holiday resort. It has a traffic-free beach-side promenade, with plenty of bars and restaurants for visitors.

PORTO CRISTO

Although not dependent on the tourism trade, this resort has become popular with those travellers looking for a quieter holiday. It's within easy reaches of the busier Cala Millor, if you want the best of both worlds, but for those looking to stay put and escape the hustle and bustle, Porto Crista has a good selection of cafes, bars and restaurants. Middle-aged couples and families may find this the perfect getaway.

CALA D'OR

This modern, purpose-built holiday resort was once a traditional Mallorcan fishing village, but now welcomes tourists to its 4km-long coastline of sandy coves and creeks. There are few high-rise buildings in Cala d'Or, giving it an old town feel, while tourists can walk round the pedestrian zone around the area of Cala Gran to experience its offering of bars, restaurants and shops.

MAGALUF AND PALMA NOVA

If you're looking for a quiet holiday, these two resorts - almost merging as one - are certainly not for you, particularly during the summer season. While both become quieter from October onwards, mid-season it is the 18-30 visitors that dominate the resorts. With nightclubs and bars aplenty, it attracts many stag and hen parties looking for a wild time. However, the resort also boasts of lovely sandy beaches and a wide range of attractions, such as water-sports and boat trips.

If you're ready to book a holiday, why not consider flying from the North West? You could find flights from Liverpool to Majorca as well as a host of other great destinations.
