Festive fun: get away from it all this Christmas
Christmas has a nasty habit of creeping up on us
, unheard and often unnoticed until every second person at work is muttering "I can't believe it's nearly Christmas again".Indeed, it seems that as soon the summer vacations are done with, one eye gradually shifts to the looming festive period and it doesn't help that many of the bigger department stores start advertising their Christmas products as early as August.
But of course, many people love Christmas. It's just that it can be an incredibly stressful time of year and, whether you love or hate it, there's no escaping it...or is there?
With all the stresses and strains of present-buying, cooking for the extended family that always argue and all the financial burdens brought on by the yuletide period, many people do decide to escape the domestic festive hustle and bustle and head off for an end-of-year break.
For those prone to a bit of the old winter blues, a Christmas vacation in the warmer climes of Florida or the Mediterranean is definitely worth investigating. And for those who just want to get away anywhere, the UK has lots to offer too, with rural retreats and stately homes providing the perfect yuletide escape route.
Furthermore, Christmas breaks aren't just about escaping the festive period many people who love Christmas simply want to get away from their normal environment and experience a very happy time of year in fresh surroundings.
Of course, the thought of spending Christmas Day away from loved ones can be enough to persuade people to brave it out for a day. But it's still possible to hit the highway on Boxing Day and head for a restful four or five day vacation at any number of hotel resorts nearby, with Jacuzzis and spa treatments providing the perfect remedy to the trials and tribulations the year has brought.
Europe is a veritable hot-spot for festive fun Christmas breaks too. The stunning scenery of the Italian lakes, Florence and ancient Rome are a short flight away. And what better way to traverse a fantastic country than by coach?
From coaches and cruises, to rail and air, it's easy to escape the festive fuss into your own customised winter wonderland. And whether you're after fun in the sun, a spa weekend or a cruise across an Italian Lake, the yuletide possibilities are limitless and you may just end up on a trip to remember for a long, long time.
