Family Movie Nights Are Both Inexpensive And Enjoyable
In today's difficult economy, many families find themselves searching for activities
they can enjoy with each other as a family, without having to spend a lot of cash. Although it can be a lot of fun to go to the theater to see a newly released movie, the cost can often be prohibitive, especially for larger families or if you want to enjoy a bucket of popcorn and some cold sodas along with the movie. Even if you choose a more affordable matinee, it may still be a little too expensive to go out to see a movie.
Start Up a Family Movie Night
Rather than spending money to take your whole family to the theater, try initiating a family movie night. This might actually be more enjoyable than going to a theater, because there is virtually no end to the various movies you can select from, whether they are on television, DVDs or even on VHS tapes. It can be fun to take turns letting each family member select the movie for the night, which can provide a great diversity in the shows you watch. It can even be fun to occasionally watch an old family movie that you recorded, such as a movie of your child's birthday party or a favorite family vacation. You can make family movie night as simple or detailed as you prefer. As an example, one family might enjoy simply sitting down on the couch with a big tub of popcorn, while the children in your family might have fun with setting up a popcorn stand in your home and selling goodies to the family members. Making tickets for the show may also be a fun craft for children to enjoy the afternoon before movie night. You will probably have so much fun that you might forget that you are also saving money.
Keeping Your Memories from the Movie Night
When a chance like this comes up to capture precious memories, don't pass it up. Take photos of everyone watching the movie together, or of the children making popcorn and serving drinks for movie refreshments. Be sure that any other special movie tickets, posters, or programs that your kids take the time to make are saved so you can look back and remember this fun time later in life. Shadow box picture frames hung up on your walls are a great way to display all of your fun mementos. You could start a tradition of creating one framed photo collage from each movie night, displaying them on the wall just like movie theaters hang movie posters. For instance, a movie ad cut from a magazine, combined with a handmade movie ticket stub, perhaps a used candy box, and several family pictures of everyone enjoying the film together can be arranged in a creative fashion in a single picture frame. Someday when your children are all grown up you will look fondly back on this day and the memories it holds. Your children will probably have a good time looking at the photographs from this time too.
