FIFA Survey Shocker! Most Countries Think Their Own World Cup Squad Is The Best!

Awarded every four years since the contest began in 1930, this year's FIFA World Cup is the nineteenth time that thirty-two teams go into battle on the pitch to show off their football skills.

The World Cup in 2010 is a far cry from the sport witnessed in the 1930's: Different rules, superior equipment and, of course, the intricate mix of domestic and international players. One minute the goalkeeper plays with a teammate in Chelsea, the next minute they're the enemy. Has all this made the football players less patriotic? And what about us, the viewers?

An ongoing FIFA survey of footy fans regarding the teams of England, Germany and Italy offers a fascinating insight into supporters' views. It asks "These squads are comprised of players solely from their domestic leagues, but which squad is the strongest?"

Here's a breakdown of how fans in the individual countries voted:

Germans

England 24%

Germany 61%

Italy 15%

English

England 43%

Germany 30%

Italy 26%

Overall

England 43%

Germany 31%

Italy 26%

German supporters felt their own squad was the strongest at a huge 61%, with England coming in at 24% and Italy a smaller slice at 15%. Contrarily, English supporters voted the England squad in at a less-than-patriotic 43%, Germany at 30% and Italy 26%. Based on these figures, it's fairly obvious that German supporters possess an enviable patriotism when it comes to football. Does this mean that England, who has some of the greatest football exports going, has become more sedate in its patriotic stance, even if they've only won once in 1966 when they were the host nation?

Whatever happened to having a little faith?
