Exploring Rome With Children

Rome may come across as a historical dream for adults with its ancient ruins

, Baroque churches and world-renowned museums, however dont let that fool you into thinking it isnt bursting with child friendly activities that are both entertaining and informative. The city abounds with activities designed for children when you're staying in hotels in central Rome. Italys capital city is a perfect holiday destination for families and a holiday here will be one the whole family will never forget.

Child Friendly Activities

Time Elevator Roma: Travel through 3000 years of Roman history on the four-dimensional flight simulator ride at Time Elevator Roma. It is conveniently located at the Piazza Venezia, near many hotels in central Rome. The exciting ride takes you on a tour of city and its monuments, as Caesar knew it.

The one-hour adventure begins with a Jeopardy! style quiz on the history of the city then moves into a movie theatre with roller-coaster seats. Once everyone is seated and the safety bar drops, the lights dim and the ride begins by heading off to the founding of the city by Romulus and Remus. The action continues as you are chased by wolves and then dip into a time tunnel to the Ides of March where, right in front of your very eyes, you will see Julius Caesar meet his untimely end. The ride ends when you hurtle on to the gladiator combats in the Coliseum, watch Michelangelo work in the Sistine Chapel, dash on to Berninis Baroque fountains and continue on through Italys modern history. The Mouth of Truth: Another popular tourist attraction, easily accessible from many hotels in central Rome, the Mouth of Truth is known as Bocca della Verit in Italian. The attraction is an image of a man-like face carved from Pavonazzetto marble. Long before lie-detector tests, there was the Bocca della Verit. Legend has it that anyone suspected of telling a lie would be brought to the Bocca della Verit and have their hand placed inside the large mouth of the stone. Those who were telling the truth would simply place their hand in the mouth and remove it without a problem; however anyone who told a lie would have his or her hand bitten off. This is a great place to bring children to get the truth out of them and to take some funny photos.

Planetarium: After a few days of learning about ancient Roman history, the kids may need a bit of light relief. Taking them to the Planetarium is a great way to incorporate a little science into a whole lot of fun. Every weekend, the planetarium has special interactive programs for children to partake in.

There's no doubt this is an exciting city for children. Hotels in central Rome are located near a variety of different activities that the whole family will enjoy participating in so there is no need to worry about anyone being bored.
