There is always going to be a need to import and export food but this should only revolve around food that cannot be grown in these countries. There are many fantastic vegetables grown in the local region but some shops will still ship in vegetables from all around the world.
Providing customer choice is one thing but showing a level of responsibility is another. If companies are not willing to look towards local suppliers for more products, consumers can play a part by refusing to buy these exported products. A company will soon notice when they bring in less money at the till or some products are left to rot on the shelf.
