Entrepreneurship - Why Those With a Childhood Start Have Such an Advantage!
And, Michael Dell ran his computer business out of his dorm room at college. I can tell you that starting out early in business is a very good idea, and perhaps that's why many parents who own their own businesses like the idea of their kids setting up a lemonade stand.
Not only does it help them learn the value of money, customer service, and all the costs associated with doing business - it teaches them entrepreneurial skills that they can't learn anywhere else. Those who go to college too long, and perhaps get the business courses will have a very hard time as entrepreneurs, because their minds think a different way.
Nevertheless, there can be no better training than running your own small business while you're in high school and college, that is if you ever wish to be a business manager, CEO, or run your own small business someday. If you want to be successful you have to think a certain way, trust yourself, and use your skills to make money.
Those who run businesses while they are children, also have another manage. If they fail, they can just stand back up and start over again. They don't have to file bankruptcy, they just don't have any money left, but they still live under their parents roof. Learning the hardships of business and failing early on, helps drive entrepreneurs later in life to prevent those types of situations in the future.
Perhaps this is why that those who start early in their childhood in some sort of small business have the advantage over everyone else. Why do you think I know this?
Well, I started my first aircraft washing service when I was 12 years old, after the proverbial paper routes and other things. I ran my business all through high school and started selling airplanes, and eventually franchised my business, and I even had to quit college because my business was doing so well.
It wasn't easy going to school, getting good grades, and playing sports, and oh yeah, I was also class president of my high school. But those skills I learned early on helped me in business later. Indeed, I definitely had the advantage over my competitors, and I learned how to watch all the details, take nothing for granted, and I learned which risks I could take, and which ones I should stay away from.
